Camping

Faith is deepened. Fun is had. Friends are made. We must be at camp!
Camping has always been a cherished practice in the Presbyterian tradition, and it is alive and well at Northminster. Hat Creek is a fabulous camp run by Presbytery of the Peaks (our regional group of Presbyterian churches) in central Virginia. Each summer, Northminster sends a group of kids to a week of fun and worship at Hat Creek. Activity options include hiking, swimming, canoeing, rock climbing, games, and crafts—while worship, singing, Biblical reflection, and relationship building are all staples of the Hat Creek experience. Montreat is one of three camps run by our national denomination and it is located just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. A group of Northminster kids annually attends a week of camping at Montreat; this week is targeted toward church music and worship, so attendees can choose from handbells, worship leadership, liturgical dance, voice choir, and many other music and worship options. This camp is highly popular, as evidenced by the 2007 groups being twice as large as the 2006 group. Every year, Northminster kids come back from camp having built relationships with counselors and kids from other churches. And often, they pick up songs and ideas they want to use at Northminster for worship and learning. Whether a kid goes to Hat Creek or Montreat—or both!—she or he is sure to build strong relationships that focus on Christ and his church.
