We LearnAt Northminster, we learn. Our worship, our fellowship, and our service are all informed by the study of God’s Word. The Christian Education committee is responsible for making sure that our learning is deep, informative, communal—and fun! Christian Education provides opportunities for Christian growth in many different environments and on every age level. Confirmation classes prepare our pre-teens for Christian discipleship and church membership; camping gives our kids an opportunity to worship and study while enjoying the adventures that an outdoor camp setting can provide; Vacation Bible School at Northminster is a yummy and energetic way to learn. Whether on Sunday mornings in Sunday School, during certain worship services, or through the many special events planned throughout the year, the Christian Education committee facilitates Christian learning that draws us closer to God and closer to one another.
Education has always been a hallmark of the Presbyterian tradition. John Calvin, who began Presbyterianism, was an academic (and a lawyer, to boot). Education has always been stressed because Presbyterians believe that, while ordained clergy are certainly important, laypersons also have the gifts and abilities to study Scripture. God doesn’t only speak to ministers; he speaks to every Christian. Come and hear what God is saying to you and to Northminster!
